About the work
All the original work represented on this site was created using traditional photographic materials and processes. I do not use digital media in the creation of negatives or prints. The pieces are printed to archival standards. That is, processes ensure the materials will retain there initial quality for 100 years without significant deterioration. They will last longer than any of the digitally generated print media that permeates the market today.

My approach to Art is focused on the representation of beauty. Simone Weil described it best: "Beauty is the Supreme mystery in this world."

I don't try to over analyze it, or get too cosmic. I simply understand it as something just on the fingertips of my grasp. That fascinates me. So I keep chasing it.

About the Artist
I began to take photography seriously while in the military. After buying a canon TX, I spent four years traveling and teaching myself the basics. When my tour of duty was complete, I enrolled and attended Rochester Institute of Technology. I received an AAS degree in photography in 1981 and a BS in professional photography in 1983. My concentration was in Fine Art.

In 1983 I started my career as a professional photographer. I worked for several production houses in Rochester, mostly shooting studio product photography. In 1986 I moved to Boston and spent 9 years working for production houses, sometimes on staff, sometimes free lance. Most of the work was product photography. While in Boston I leased a studio and began shooting figure work on the side.

In 1994 I received an MBA from Northeastern University. In 1995, I got out of the commercial photography business, and accepted finance job in Rochester, NY. Shortly after I leased a studio, and focused primarily on figure photography. I kept the day job. I also began experimenting with alternative processes like Bromoil and Platinum/Palladium.

I had my first exhibition in 1995 in Provincetown, MA. I continued to exhibit in MA, NY and Washington DC for the next 5 years. In 2000 I moved to Raleigh NC. I built a studio in Durham and currently reside and work there. Over the last 5 years, I have exhibited in Durham and have been represented in several national exhibitions across the US. I continue to focus primarily on figure photography, and have recently begun experimenting with landscapes. I work primarily in 70mmm or 8x10 formats.
